Get results in days, not monthsResults in days, not monthsWhere advisors stand
A person choosing a financial advisor is handing over savings, retirement plans, sometimes an inheritance or the proceeds of a sold company. That is why so many firms live on referrals from CPAs, estate attorneys and satisfied households. It is also why a stranger who finds you online behaves differently from a stranger who finds a plumber: they read more, compare credentials, check how you are paid and look for any sign of a sales pitch.
The goal of marketing for a financial advisor is not to close anyone. It is to book the first discovery meeting with a household that fits your practice, and to make that booking feel low-pressure. Everything else, from your site to your map listing to your ads, should serve that one step. The questions below are the ones owners raise most often.
One caution before anything else. Advertising for investment advisers, broker-dealer representatives and insurance-licensed planners is regulated at several levels, including the SEC or your state securities regulator, FINRA where it applies, and the platforms themselves. This page is general marketing information, not legal or compliance advice. Have your compliance contact review any page, ad or post before it goes live, and do not promise returns, outcomes or timelines.
Owner questions
Plans are month-to-month. RankGuarantee™ pages are $495 a month, a managed ads account starts at $895 a month with spend billed by the platform, and Organic Growth (listing, citations, review management, AI search, reporting) begins at $1,495 a month. No setup fee, no contract. The figure to watch is what each held discovery meeting and each new client costs you.
No. We do not buy or sell leads, referrals or client lists, and we do not run a lead marketplace. We build channels you own: your listing, your pages, your ads account and your follow-up process. Paid referral arrangements can raise rules of their own for advisors, so check with your regulator or compliance consultant before entering one.
It is a household or business owner in or near your service area who matches your minimums and your niche, who has a reason to act, such as retirement, a sale, an inheritance or a job change, and who is willing to book a call. A weak lead is someone shopping for a product, asking for stock tips or far outside your minimum.
Rules vary by registration type and regulator. The SEC marketing rule, for example, sets specific conditions around testimonials and endorsements for registered advisers, and state rules and FINRA guidance apply in other cases. Ask your compliance contact what is allowed, how it must be disclosed and how it must be archived before you ask for or display any.
There is no single winner, which is why we judge sources by cost per held meeting. For many local firms the map listing and a handful of well-built pages for your niche and area bring steady inquiries, and a modest paid search campaign adds speed. A firm focused on a niche, such as physicians or business owners, may lean more on content aimed at that group.
Both platforms have financial services policies, and some require advertiser verification or restrict certain claims and product types. Read the current policy for each platform before launching, keep ad copy factual and avoid promises. We configure and manage campaigns inside those rules, but your firm remains responsible for compliance of its own advertising.
Quickly enough that the person still remembers filling out the form, which usually means the same business day and ideally within a couple of hours. A short, warm reply with two or three times to choose from beats a long automated email. Do not ask for account numbers or Social Security numbers in any web form.
No one can promise that. Clear, consistent facts help: how you are paid, who you serve, your credentials, your location and what a first meeting involves. Keep those facts identical on your site, your listing and your directory profiles. If you try ChatGPT ads, treat them as an early channel and keep the test small and measured.
They can work for retirement and niche topics because the audience arrives already interested, but they are labor intensive and the compliance review of slides and invitations takes time. Treat them as one experiment among several, track attendees through to held meetings and compare the cost against your other sources before repeating.
The first meeting
A person or a clear auto-reply acknowledges the request and offers specific times. Avoid asking anyone to read a long document before they have spoken to a human.
Name, phone, the reason they reached out and a rough preference for call or video is enough. Keep sensitive financial details off the web form.
Your compliance process will tell you which disclosure documents go out before or at the first meeting. Build that into the confirmation email so nothing is forgotten.
Whoever runs the meeting notes how the person found you, so your report ties each channel to meetings held and clients signed, not to form fills.
Many households need months. A short note after the meeting and a gentle check-in later keep your firm in mind when the trigger event arrives.
Sources
Local discovery
A category such as financial planner, your office address or service area, hours, services and honest reviews, handled within your compliance rules.
Owned search
Pages written for retirees, business owners, physicians or teachers in your area answer the questions people type before they pick up the phone.
Relationship
CPAs, estate attorneys and mortgage professionals send clients to advisors they trust. A clear one-page description of your ideal client makes it easy for them.
Paid, fast
Campaigns for terms like fee-only advisor or retirement planner near you, with messaging your compliance contact has approved and clean tracking.
Paid, patient
Better for reminding visitors and promoting educational events than for cold selling, and subject to financial services ad policies.
Early signal
Consistent profiles help both directory visitors and assistants describe your firm accurately. Treat them as supporting evidence, not a pipeline.
Measuring
| Measure | Where to find it | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Calls and form fills by source | Call tracking and form reports | Which channels create contact at all |
| Discovery meetings held | Your calendar and CRM | Whether leads are real people who show up |
| Clients signed by source | CRM tagged at the first call | Which channel is worth more budget |
| Time from inquiry to first reply | CRM timestamps | Whether slow responses are quietly losing households |
| Reviews added | Map listing dashboard | Whether the listing is gaining proof, within your rules |
| Cost per held meeting | Ad spend and fees divided by meetings | How paid and owned channels compare fairly |
Where to start
Financial advisor firms that try everything at once rarely learn anything. A better first month is narrow: decide who your ideal client is, build or tighten the pages that speak to that group, fix the map listing, and add one paid search campaign with a small budget so you can see which questions bring real calls. Our Organic Growth plans cover the listing, pages and reporting, and our paid ads management covers the campaign, both month-to-month.
The honest way to get more leads for financial advisors is to build sources you own and then measure them. If a vendor offers to deliver a set number of qualified investors every week, ask where they come from and whether you are one of several firms receiving the same name. Then run any source you try the way you would run a new hire: give it time, measure the meetings it produces and stop it if it does not earn its place.
